My experience with horns goes back to public school days. I would rate this saxophone as better than most. I would tell potential buyers not to be wary of an instrument at this price. It plays really well in as much as it is comparatively easy to put air through it. I am using a 1 1/2 Rico reed with the mouthpiece that came with it and get a good sound. If, like me, you are getting back into playing after a long hiatus give this horn a shot first before buying something more expensive. For someone to rag on this instrument they would have to have very unrealistic expectations for the price paid.

This Cecilio Tenor Saxophone was my first sax after picking it back up from when I stopped in high school. It's a great beginner horn with quality and durable construction for its price range. It's also a surprisingly warm sounding horn and actually worthy of playing out....and not to mention it's a beautiful looking sax under the stage lights. My only suggestion would be to lightly condition the pads as they tend to be prone to sticking if you play this sax every day for several hours each. I would also highly recommend getting a better mouthpiece as the one that comes with this is pretty cheap and is not very precise in its construction. Also get better reeds as the reeds with this horn are cheap, off brand reeds. Mouthpieces play an integral part of the sax's overall sound (arguably more than 50 percent of the sound quality) and it's important you have a good mouthpiece for sound as well as comfort. The cheap mouthpiece was the only reason this sax didn't get 5 stars, but obviously the price would be much higher if it had come with a better one. A few things to remember when purchasing a Cecilio. Cecilio is at the higher end of the cheap sax spectrum. There are much more lower quality saxophones out there and when dealing with these types of saxophones, but Cecilio is one of the better basic sax makers and as long as you get a decently assembled sax, you should not be disappointed with a Cecilio. When you get better, then you can drop a few grand on a more professional saxophone.
